Lejog day 8 Bridgwater to Bristol
No canal towpaths. Hooray! Rosie did 40 miles today according to Strava. I only did 39! Very easy cycling for much of the day. Flat across the Somerset Levels then a few undulations. The biggest hill came at the end, just before the Clifton Suspension Bridge.
We'd been a bit edgy about two consecutive long days. Rosie's wrist aches a bit and I couldn't get to sleep last night because of nettle stings! Ended up doing a waffle puzzle and then reading a chapter of my book at 2:30 am to try and induce sleep! Anyway, today was much easier than yesterday so we managed it and feel very proud of ourselves!
We're self catering tonight at Clifton in a basement apartment. The whole property was once owned by Samuel Jackson (1843-1869), a renowned painter apparently. The property is now named "Sam's Den".
We continue to be blessed with beautiful weather and are enjoying it very much while it lasts.
After gravelly canal towpaths yesterday and some dusty cycleways along old railway lines today the bikes are disgustingly filthy covered in a layer of dust! Only 20 miles to do tomorrow so maybe some cleaning will have to take place.
