Lejog day 6 North Tawton to Tiverton
A mix of A roads and country lanes. The second A road along the Exe valley was not very pleasant - too busy!
However the highlight was the village of Thorverton with its quaint thatched cottages and a little green with benches by a babbling brook.
We had just sat on one of the benches to eat our lunch when a group of five cyclists raced into view, pulled in at the green and immediately apologised for shattering our peace and solitude! It wasn't a problem.
It turned out they were from the Torbay area and out for the day on a 70 mile (ish) ride. One of them was gutted because his team, Torquay United, had lost in a play-off semi final yesterday. He'd started off the day feeling depressed but the cycling had been good therapy.
Another one was well on his way in attempting to complete the British Cycling Quest. This is a challenge that has no time limit. There are checkpoints throughout England, Scotland and Wales. Our cyclist friend has ticked off more than 200 - over 100 still to go! Many of the ones he has done are in the Scottish Isles. Good luck in finishing the challenge. It sounds like great motivation in getting out on your bike!
Before we went our separate ways we swapped phones and captured ourselves on camera. They kindly agreed to me giving them a mention on the blog and publishing the photo. Thanks to you all - great to meet you and hope you enjoyed the rest of the ride.
We're now at the Bridge Guest House in Tiverton about to go and enjoy the delights of a Wetherspoons meal and maybe a pint!
Six days done, a day off tomorrow - no cycling! What WILL we do?!
