Lejog day 11 Hereford to Ludlow
A short day today of 25 miles. We had to spin it out a bit as check-in was 4pm earliest at our accommodation. We spent quite a while sitting on a bench outside a very impressive church at a place called Richard's Castle. The sun was shining; it was very peaceful and I nearly dozed off!
We're staying at a lovely B&B called The Cedars owned by Nick and Julie. They have stables but no horses any more - our bikes are in one of them! There are sheep in the field - a rare Dutch breed called Zwartbles.
Nick gave us a lift to Ludlow where we ended up in the Wheatsheaf pub and enjoyed a very tasty meal of lamb shanks with mashed potato. Ludlow Festival is happening this weekend so it was it was busy. There was only one barmaid on duty and she was doing a great job but she lost it a bit when two men, obviously a bit inebriated, started complaining because they felt somebody had jumped the queue. She said: "If you're not happy with the service there's the door!" They carried on muttering so she then went round the back and next minute a fearsome looking woman came out and told them in no uncertain terms to refrain from insulting her staff! In the end they were given their marching orders.
When we first went in there was a man at the bar with a little dog. Rosie thought at first that it was a puppy. It turned out the dog was 16 years old!
After sharing a sticky toffee pudding we walked the three miles back to The Cedars
